On August 18th, beginning at 9:00 am, we are pleased to host a tour of the projects and innovations being tested through AIVA network at the Innovation Farm, Ontario location, here at Haggerty Creek.
Our team at Haggerty has a history of trying new products and equipment in real farm settings, to evaluate them and try to determine if they fit into our production system.
After registration at 8:30, at 1677 Johnston Road, we will be going on a rotation tour of the research projects occurring near and on that site.
For example, there will be a demonstration of the Drone Fungicide application, supported by Corteva, using a DJI T50 agricultural drone.
In addition, our team has been busy with 1 acre onion plot, completely managed by autonomous robots, including the ground preparation, seeding of the onions, and weeding of onion plants.
Next door is the trial, supported by the Ontario Soil Network ANT (Alternative Nitrogen Trial), with variable nitrogen applications in corn.
We will also layout 3 soil testing technologies. The plot area is flagged out using coloured flags, to show attendees what a ‘soil map” looks like in the real world, rather than on your computer screen. The examples are SoilOptix, with over 335 data points per acre of soil information, compared with the technology from S4 labs, which is using a spectral imaging system for real time soil test results, and Miraterra, using historical data, imagery and remote sensing for both soil health and water movement.
Following this, we will travel to Haggerty Creek to view the testing results from Credosense, a handheld, real time plant health testing system for crop pathology.
If you are interested, you can also bring your own plant tissue samples for testing using our Picketa LENS system, which can generate plant nutrient test results in real time without requiring them to be sent to a lab.
Branvault technology (formerly Bushel+) will have their grain loss testing equipment for combine harvesters on site, as well as the “mini-combine” for testing soybean and grain samples in field.
